Solar water pumps for farms and azba

The simplest solar there is: panels, a controller and your pump. Water goes up into the tank while the sun is out, and gravity does the rest all day and all night.

Short answer: A solar water pump does not need a battery, because the raised tank stores the water far more cheaply than a battery stores the electricity. Most UAE farm pump jobs are 1.5 to 3 kWp of panels driving a borehole or surface pump into a tank. Sizing comes from your pump plate rating, borehole depth and daily water use in summer.

Store water, not electricity

A solar pump system does not need a battery, because the tank is the battery. The pump runs while the sun is up, fills a raised tank, and the troughs and irrigation lines feed off that tank around the clock. Fewer parts, lower cost, and almost nothing to go wrong.

What we need to size it

  • The plate on your existing pump — rating, voltage, phase
  • How deep the borehole is, or the lift from source to tank
  • Tank size and how high it sits
  • How many cubic metres a day you actually use in summer

DC or AC

A dedicated DC solar pump with an MPPT controller is the most efficient route and the usual choice for a new borehole. If you already have a good AC pump, a solar drive lets it run straight off the array without replacing hardware you have already paid for. We tell you which is cheaper for your situation instead of defaulting to whichever we sell more of.

Where a battery does make sense

If you need pumping after dark, or the same array is also carrying pen lights and fans, then storage earns its place. That becomes an off-grid farm system rather than a pump-only job.

Solar pump questions

Does a solar water pump need a battery?
Usually not. The raised tank stores the water, which is far cheaper than storing the electricity. A battery is only worth adding when you need to pump after dark or the same array runs other loads.
Can it run my existing borehole pump?
Often yes, using a solar drive rather than replacing the pump. We check the plate rating and the borehole depth on the site visit before recommending either route.
What happens on a cloudy day?
Flow drops with the light. Sizing allows for that, and the tank carries you through — which is exactly why we pump into storage rather than straight to the trough.
How deep can a solar pump work?
Solar submersible pumps commonly cover heads from around 20 metres to several hundred, and the right pump depends on your borehole depth and daily volume. We size it from your actual figures.
