Running AC on an azba, off the grid
A worker room that stays cool through a Gulf summer changes everything about life on a farm. Doing it on a diesel generator costs a fortune. Doing it on sun and a battery does not.

Cooling one worker room properly is a far smaller job than most owners expect — and it is the single change that farm staff notice most.
The room that has to be cool by evening
On most azba the AC is one window unit or a single split in the worker room, and it needs to run hardest in the late afternoon and through the night — which is precisely when a generator is burning fuel and nobody wants to hear it. That mismatch is the whole design problem, and a battery is what solves it.
Daytime is the easy half
While the sun is up, the array runs the AC directly alongside the pump and the fans. In a desert yard we usually ground-mount at a working height rather than on a shed roof, so the panels can actually be washed and the wiring stays out of reach of animals and vehicles.
Night cooling is a battery question
A single room unit running through the evening and night is a real load, and it is the thing that decides your battery size. We measure it properly instead of guessing, because on a farm this is where an over-specified quote goes wrong: a battery twice the size you need is a large amount of money sitting in a cabinet.

- A fridge and lights that must never go off
- Cabling strung across the yard that needs putting in conduit properly
Sizing it honestly
A farm that wants one room cooled through the day and most of the night generally lands in the 3 to 6 kWp range with storage matched to the night hours. Wanting several rooms cooled all night is a different conversation, and if it pushes past our 10 kWp limit we will say so rather than stretch.
Where the generator ends up
Not in the scrap yard — parked. Once solar and the battery carry the pump, the lights, the fans and the room AC, the generator becomes the thing you start in an unusual week rather than every single evening. That is when the daily fuel trips stop.
